Recreation

Deadwood is right in the middle of the Black Hills National Forest. Natural beauty is everywhere and recreational opportunities abound all year long.

Black Hills Hiking

There are many hiking options.  Right in Deadwood is the Whitewood Creek Trail.  Just a few miles out of town is the scenic Mt Roosevelt trail.  And, only 20 minutes away you can go hiking in Spearfish Canyon.  Some of the best hikes there include Devils Bathtub, Community Caves, Roughlock Trail and “76 Trail.  Don’t forget the amazing Lookout Mountain Park right in Spearfish.

Black Hills Lakes

Roubaix Lake is just a short drive south of  Deadwood, it is a great place to cool off on a hot summer’s day.  Pactola Lake is just a little further down the road and offer lots of recreational opportunities.

Scenic Drives

Anywhere you drive around Deadwood is scenic.  I recommend Spearfish Canyon be sure to pullover and explore 11th Hour Gulch.  If you have more time, a day trip to Devils Tower or Mount Rushmore can be a lot of fun.

Winter Sports

350 miles of snowmobile trails, skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing.  If it’s done in the snow you can do it in the Black Hills.
